Emma, who joined the Student Advisory Group in November 2021, says “I'm really looking forward to being able to contribute and support the Student Advisory Group with my unique life experiences, my Polynesian background, and my competitive drive to be the best and support others to be their best also.”

Currently working towards the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education), Emma chose the degree because she believes that the early years are extremely influential in the outcomes of a person’s life. “Children are extraordinary; I love their wonder for the world and their free-thinking minds,” she says.

Emma began her degree studies in 2019. “I chose distance learning with Open Polytechnic as it allowed me to have the freedom to determine my own study and work schedule based on my needs. One of the other primary benefits is the added placement time, allowing me to get more hands-on experience in early learning centres before completing my degree.”

Future goals for Emma include becoming the best teacher she can be to support children, and to one day establish her own early childhood learning centre.
