How to request an assessment extension

Deadlines for submitting your assessments are in your course information and will show in My Open Polytechnic and iQualify.

It is important that you make every attempt to complete your assignments on time.

If you cannot meet the deadlines for any reason, such as you need more time to study, illness, work, family responsibilities, or other things that interrupt your study, you can apply for an assessment extension in My Open Polytechnic before your due date or during the extension period and it will be automatically approved and processed. You may get an extension of up to two weeks, which are granted in one-week blocks.

You will not be able to request an extension that goes beyond the end of the enrolment period for your course.

Assessment deadline dates are compulsory, and assessments submitted after any extended due date will not be marked (refer to the Academic Statute). Apply here in My Open Polytechnic

Trimester courses

You can apply for an assessment extension through My Open Polytechnic. The maximum extension available for each assessment is two weeks, except when the extension request exceeds the end date of the enrolment period. These are granted in one-week blocks. Extensions should be applied for before the due date, but if you forget, you can still apply during the 14-day extension period. Once you have applied, our automatic system will approve extension requests, and you will receive an email stating your new due date.

If you are seeking a further extension after the second one-week extension or beyond the enrolment period, you will need to complete an Application for Special Consideration. Some courses do not permit an extension beyond two weeks, even under special consideration.
