 It is the ideal programme if you want to get a head start, and gain 60 NCEA Level 1 and 2 credits. The credits include the compulsory literacy and numeracy credits that will assist towards completing NCEA Level 1.

We are no longer taking enrolments from new learners for NZ2861 New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 1). 

Re-enrolling learners

If you have already started studying NZ2861 New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 1) you will continue to be enrolled in your next course.  Please note you must successfully complete all courses in this programme by 31 December 2024 to be awarded this qualification.  If you need assistance with a study plan, please contact us.

Fees free

You can currently study this qualification fee free. This means you will not pay any course fees.

Course materials

You will study this course using paper-based materials. These will be sent to you by courier. 

Learning support

During your study, you will be supported by a tutor. They will make contact with you after you enrol, and maintain regular contact with you.

You will also have support from:

  • a learning supporter to help answer any questions you may have
  • our Library and Learning Centre, who can help to locate any additional resources you might need.

Cross crediting and NCEA

You can not cross credit any Level 2 credits from Level 1. The Level 2 programme has different assessment standards. However, Level 2 credits gained in NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1 can be used towards NCEA Level 2

Depending on what credits you already have on your Record of Achievement, if you complete both of our Foundation Skills Level 1 and 2 programmes, you may have enough credits to apply to NZQA for NCEA Level 1 or 2.
